question... did the el's have knock sensors or just the ef's? as i didnt change the timing case when i did my eb to el conversion

Timing case?? The knock senor is in the block under the intake manifold isn't it?

yes the EL has a knock sensor. it is located on the passenger side of the motor towards the back on the block itself

All this talk about sensors is topical for me. Today i fitted the upper half of my EL BBM to the lower half of my AU BBM. Makes it much more plug and play.

huh? you confused me. there should only be 1 knock sensor and its not on the head. there shouldnt be ANY sensors on the head itself.

the AUs have the temperature sensor in the head at the rear....its actually a better system because it measures cylinder head temperature, which means it can still sense temperture even when completely out of water...I dont think its compatable with the E series ecu but

It's the EL upper that is making things easier. I'm surprised at the number of changes to the sensors and even the castings between the EL and AU upper bbm stuff.

Thanks. I was guessing it's a temp sensor. The advice i've been given on this forum is to fit the EB lower thermostat housing, which has two temp sensors. I did that today.
