Sorry, but that interior and dash are just horrid. Not my scene at all. But you've put a decent bit of effort in there and it does look well done, if that's how you like it then all's good!

No, but I like your thinking! I was more of an Atari ST freak myself, but the graphic is based upon a picture by Aliens creator, Gieger.

It sure does polarise people. You either love it (like the panelbeater, spraypainter, chick who drives an XR6 and works at ED Junior Kustom chopping chop) or you don't (my missus, the junky next door, your good self....) Yeah yeah you know who you are, I introduced you already... wrote: The bushes on the rear swaybar are not Nolathane. They are Whiteline (who are now owned by Nolathane though, ... Nolathane are red, Whiteline are yellow. Holy crap batman. Once again, I am bowing in your presence. I said NOLATHANE purely because I didn't know what the hell they were, but they don't appear to be Prothane or Rubber. I actually do think this setup is an original Whiteline from the late 90's. And I got it for $9. Thanks to everyones advice I knew what I was looking for - just glad the quote I got from the suspension specialist for $380 was out of my range on the day as it was the day before payday, not the day after! Hewhehehehe... See above.. wrote: BTW - what's with the wierd shaped photos?
Good to hear that you've improved the handling, because the wagons don't do too well in stock form at all! WHAT WEIRD SHAPED PHOTOS? The handling of the wagons in stock form is total crap, yeahp. No worse than an old Holden from the late 70's tho... Which is what I learnt to drive in....... Now that car always ran on 5 cylinders... Ended up taking the plug out of the cylinder that didn't work and running it for another 50,000. It had air con too --- If you put your foot on the brake you would shave your boot on the road - had rusted so badly that you had to rest your foot on the wall of the footwell, not the bottom or front. You got real wet feet in the rain... Etc etc etc. Okay dude - I am off to do something about getting some photos of my doors and my air intake (which I have not made yet, as have wasted all day sitting looking at this damn blue screen...) Cheers for the knowledge and nudges in the right direction dude. Am off to buy some oil for the diff and am thankful I have an easy to operate on EF series gearbox... Whose dum idea was it to remove dipsticks anyway!?!!?!? IDIOTS!

NYLOC's have a little bit of nylon, like a washer in them that means they operate like a lock nut or it's more like using a lock-tite glue or something in the thread to stop them undoing themselves with vibration or load differences. Oh, and by the way, I might live in Aus but I am a Kiwi too LOL Goddam, I should be able to think of a joke or something about raising the IQ of both countries, but I honestly can't think of one. Besides which, the NZ cash they give you for working over here isn't worth it. Thankfully NZ still has A.C.C. I am going to add more bits in the first message at top of thread....

Yeah I know but is that all thats holding the U-Bolts, they're not known for their high shear strength afaik. |

Ahah... Would it help if I mentioned that the U-Bolts are 12mm diameter (a lot fatter than original) and that the nuts also have spring washers and that this set up is about 4 times stronger than what was on the car new from factory?!

Just bought some new wheels as a celebration of making progress. $450 with tyres that should last for a few months until I get some money for more.

You should be able to get some cheap u-bolts from the exhaust shop.

It's got bitsa Futura, Fairmont, Fairlane, VN (ahemm), EB, ED, EF, EL, NF and even IBM. gogettitlad, itain'tgonnahurtthatmuch, goonwithya wrote: enjoyable thread...wagons rock!!! love the graphics...good to see a right brain creative type here, goes against all the logical (boring) left brainers...proves cars can be fun without being the fastest... what was the cause of the low oil pressure after the head gaskit change? Wagons do rock me old bean - But this boat like annoyance is helluva better with 1 tonne and sway bar rear. Need a fatter front sway bar now to go with the 235/45/17's that stick out almost to the guards. Went for a real fast drive up Mount Vic last night and the first couple of off camber corners got me - The car doesn't understeer and wobble, so I almost drove of the INSIDE of the first corner whilst having to step off the gas! The second corner was a bit dodgy too --- I set the car up by turning in a touch early and loading the suspension up as I would have had to before... I found myself going around the corner before the apex so had to straighten up and then hook it in again... It was totally controllable the whole way once I realised to stop thinking of it as my car and re-learn the EF Rockin Wagon code of practice. Thanks for the comments re creative VS boring. Even I possibly wouldn't buy a technical manual written by myself, but I know a lot of people who have drawings and posters I've done on their walls! Some are even advertising tourism operations that have been out of business for over a decade but are still on backpackers and hostels walls. No idea to this day about the head gaskit change. I had the head machined and somehow outlet port 6 valve got bent. When I took the rocker cover off myself I noticed it had been replaced with an older EA style unit. Possibly the oil cavities work differently? More likely I would say something was dropped into oil cavities which worked its was into the pump or something. The pressure dropped slowly over 500k until the car started beeping and rattling from top end. When I revd it hard the pressure went up but it drained out the top end faster than I could get it there. Result - very rattly top end, possibly dodgy bottom end, and a shell of a car which I am still waiting to get the gearbox back from. Rick's Famous Fairmont Wagon wrote: You should be able to get some cheap u-bolts from the exhaust shop.
They will probably a bit thin though! The respray idea look likely to blow the budget! The U-Bolts from exhuast shops are thin alright - and they never seem to have a 73mm. They have 80's and above and 60's and below... Which is fine, but they are awfully fragile looking. Will continue to hold out for something perfect below the $30 each mark! Something will come up, and it is an easy swap... Respray will blow budget, for sure. That's why I'm going to do it with spray cans from Supercheap... KIDDING. I am *not* going to respray the car with spray cans from Supercheap. Promise. No matter how tempting the cheapness is. There was a spray painter who wanted me to work on his house (being a builder, I figure I may be able to accommodate that) in exchange for doing a bit of a paint on the car. Just where his number went is beyond me, but I'll dig it up when I finally sort out my worldly possessions.
