That would go nicely in my wagon now Those pictures sure remind me of a EB GT that was selling cheap at Bathurst RIGHT after I bought my station wagon. The wood grain looks great. Is the flash on your camera exagerating the different colours though? |

Where did you get the extra wood grain from? They didnt originally come with the wood splashed up around the dash, i think it looks good but a wee bit too much imo. What i am about to say is going to make you cringe, i just chopped up my LTD's console woodgrain so it fits the boot for my new T5, it just has the rubber boot atm but will be getting a custom leather boot made to fit. Will post pics later. I may be interested in selling my other woodgrain console piece though.... ( i had 2, one in the car, another spare which is now a T5 variant.)

I like my shifter.....you can't have it Not the flash mate, for some reason, the centre console pieces are that crap light colour wood.....not the first time I've seen it either. Hard to find the centre pieces in the same shade as the dash pieces.....but I won't give up the search

Send me a pic on the 2nd piece you have and the asking price, if it's the right colour, we'll talk And the wood is from the NA I bought.....not the best, but it will do for now until I can find the right set from an original DC......pffft, as if

Haha, will get the pics up quick, bloody hell was it a mission to cut it out, they are made on the bizarrely , they have a piece of wood sandwiched between two metal plates that seem like titanium when trying to cut them they are so tough, then they have about 3-4 more layers of wood on top then the clear coat. i took the auto plastic off the bottom then put the T5 plastic base underneath and cut the woodgrain out to suit. looks fab.
My wood is slightly light, i know what you are saying about the light/dark ratio with the dash stuff, it is impossible to find the dark stuff for the window switch and the T bar. But i will get a pic of that too for you. |

Oh and i dont mean to burst your bubble or anything nasty, but i dont think that wood is genuine ford. the real stuff is alot thicker and a different pattern. I think i may also have a spare window switch surround here too somewhere if you want it...... When i can find the time to undo the car cover on the LTD i'll take some pics of the grain colour for you.

Update on the radiator issue. I did some ringing around today and decided just to get a new tank fitted to mine......after all, it is in pretty good nick. Full clean-out + new tank to replace the busted one for $130.
Quick plug for good service

Hey guys, been reading this thread, but never talked...... but this time i have to!!
Get rid of the woodgrain, get the plastic and have it painted a piano black, same with the door handle surrounds, and get the handles chromed. Otherwise, that is the sexiest lane i have seen...... untill i build one myself! Good luck Mick! |

I was just thinking the same thing, the deep gloss that piano black has would look good in the Fairlane interior along with a few other black highlights in the trim etc. but the woodgrain also looks very smart, a lot better than the original grey plastic, does make the interior look just that little bit classier as Fairlanes should be Well done!! |

Thanks fella's!
Won't be getting rid of the wood, but welcome to your opinions. It does actually look much better in person than the pics show, and even the lighter centre console pieces are growing on me after having a few drives over the weekend. I might try that piano black suggestion in the NA, it's the wife's new daily, so I can experiment a little with that before doing anything drastic with the NC Cheers, Mick

im using saturn black and i love the look. i think if you go piano black you will need ALOT of clear coats to make it look good and stay that way. also all the texture would need sanding off

Good Stuff Ross And I agree on the wood comments! I'm quite happy with the look and it seems that the point of the build has been missed by a few reading the thread. It will be as close to...if not better than the DC LTD, as there is also some later model enhancements that have found there way into the build. Cheers, Mick
