theres a serial pin on the diagnostic plug true? well wouldnt that send data to a computer?

im looking at a car pc n if it will b capable of doin diagnostics

In Australia, there is no serial data diagnostics on the ECUs in the XF to EL.
The only exception is Airbag where a K line interface was implemented on late model ELs.

The Ford operations in the US and in Europe did implement a data link function in the EECIV and EECV of the same vintage as our ED to EL models.
OBD2 style DTCs as well as live data were available from those units...it was a sort of OBD1.5

As far as I am aware .... the data link function (in the US and Europe) was driven by their local governments requiring the vehicles to prove performance to emission levels (is why OBD2 was eventually invented), whereas in Australia, the government here only mandated emissions via the ADRs (design phase of the vehicle) and never in real world operation.

In Australia, Ford here persisted with the same OBD1 protocol (that was first introduced in the XF) through to the EL.
The EEC software used by the yanks and europeans would have been available to Ford Australia.
I guess they chose not to implement it here as OBD1 provided the same info (aside from live data) and there would have been a high cost for their dealers to upgrade their diagnostics units (which they eventually had to do with the advent of the AU, BA, BF, etc). The NGS unit, that the dealers used, was introduced in 1993-ish, so they had 5 years of amortisation before AU appeared and forced a replacement.

My diagnostic unit reads the OBD1 codes (XF-EL) and displays those on the unit.
I did implement a USB interface but that only sends out what is available from the diagnostics, which is the same info as on the DCR units display...really only useful if you lack a pen to write the codes down as they appear on the display.
