I have an AU2 Futura dedicated gas car fuel guage that is pissing me off to the max :x
Not long after we bought it the fuel guage started to lie going from full to next time you start the car it beeps its bum of saying its empty when we know it was full, the distance to empty tells huge lies also.
The Ford mechanics here have had it back at least 2 dozen times so far each time it lasts a few weeks then dies.
It goes in again tommorow to have the sender replaced again
Has anybody else had the same problem,if so is it fixed & how or what was done to fix it?
Don't get me wrong I really like the car apart from that which is why it's so frustrating :x

I've had that problem in the taxi for the last 100,000kms or so. I've learned to live with it but lately its bee getting worse and is starting to s**t me. Its like every time you start the car the guage reads differently and doesn't settle to its true reading untill you take it for a 20 minute continuous drive.

Well they (Ford) replaced the fuel sender unit on Friday.
But as my wife went to pick it up & it wouldn't start so they found then that the fuel cutoff solenoid had s**t itself.
Well its now Sunday & its OK sofar.

the two biggest causes of this problem are
dodgy sender (clear plastic unit mounted on the outside of the tank)
dodgy float (inside the tank)

it sounds like they replaced the sender but the float is the problem - it provides a signal to the sender. To get it fixed, the tank has to be purged of gas, float replaced, refit and refuel. It's not really a difficult job for the dealership or a gas specialist.

Ahhh ... is it easy to replace ... cos my car didn't want to start the other morning ... and then all of a sudden when NRMA turned up ... it started ... the bastard ... the NRMA guy says he has had the same problem with his BA EGAS work ute.

Me thinks it's time for a new solenoid for me.

I get the odd occasion where the fuel gauge reads dead empty .... did it to me once after slamming the brakes on to avoid someone that pulled out in front of me ... I was like "WTF".
