Hey guys,
I've been talking to a guy here in Perth who is selling his CAPA Flash tuning box that was fitted to his stock BA XR6T 4-spd Auto (same as mine). He's got 3 generic tunes (Valet, 10 psi and 11 psi) loaded on it by BPT Motorsport here in Perth (they guarantee 245 rwkw without any other mods) but he's now reverted his car back to factory setting and selling the box. What I need to know is ...CAN I NOW BUY HIS BOX AND LOAD HIS TUNES ONTO MY BA XR6T WITHOUT ANY HASSLES? ...OR WILL I HAVE TO TAKE THE BOX BACK TO BPT TO 'UNLOCK' IT AGAIN, SO I CAN USE THE PROGRAMS ON MY CAR? Someone please let me know soon ...as I have to decide TODAY!!!!

i'm sure when trent got his for his xt they told him it was vin locked so that he couldnt use it on like 5 cars... best option is to call them and ask them hey... assuming they are open today...

Yeah, I heard about the VIN locking too ...but BPT are now closed until the 8th JAN 
That's why I was hoping one of you guys could help me

will the guy let u try it and see if it works before u buy it?
also there were 2 different pcms fitted to BAs. if u look at the part number on the pcm it should read something like 3R23-12A650-(XX) or 3R23-12A650-(XXX). the 2 suffix and 3 suffix arent interchangable as far as i know as the internals are different... |

This is more complicated than I thought!

OK ...got the seller's PCM code ...it's 3R23-12A581-AC
Just gotta check mine now... He's OK to let me try before I buy

so his car is either pre may 2003 or from sometime in 2004 onwards iirc..
it may not make any difference with flash tunes, but i know it does with genuine reflashes... |

iirc you cant use it on another car unless u go back to the tune shop
somethign along the lines of that if 1 box will work on all cars they only need to sell 1 or 2 boxes then everyone can use the flash tune ( depending on mods ) the box can be used on up to 5 diff cars with each time the box and car need to be taken back to the dealer who sold the box to allow the new vin code to be sotred on the box after 5 cars i dont think it works anymore! ^^^ the above info may be wrong!

My code is 3R23-12A581-AD ...his is exactly the same but -AC on the end.
Is this a good or bad thing?

I've gone and bought it anyway, $860 with the 3 BPT tunes in it.
Even if I do have to get the VIN reset (Terry told the seller that he doesn't really have to do it) ...BPT should only charge $100 max to do it (along with some other tweaking on the laptop) ...and I've saved $345 on the $1305 price tag from BPT
Plus the guy is allowing me time to pay it off over the next 2 weeks, and he'll take it back if it doesn't work somehow

Is this a good or bad thing? yeh thats good the suffix is the calibration level, which can be changed by ford with a reflash anyway... IIRC BA's are now up to AE or AK i dont remember.. |
