slap in an XR one
or X chaser (police)

auto?

Yes you can change the ecu, you'll gain a few different things with various types of ECU's.

eg: XR ecu's are known to be able to idle/run better with lumpier cams over stock ecu's, they also have a different auto shift pattern.

The police ones are simular in the auto pattern, but won't allow the car to get into 4th under 80k's (reaction time is better).
this can be awesome for some, and bad if in 80k' zones in traffic (3rd/4th/3rd etc.

Both these will work in a Stock car, however some are programmed for different diff gears (so an XR is optimal with 3.45:1 gears.)

Even tho XR's have different head, fuel pressure, cam its all ok. the fuel side of things will be in a workable range and shouldn't affect the consumption too much.

hope this helps

You can also consider ECU's from an AU (Series 1 only!), this will give you Sequential Injection and some other new features found in the AU ECU series.
