Getting Side Ways

When I got my engine put in my ZG Fairlane 351 the people doing it put it up on a hoist and the fuel line was squashed. It now starves for fuel in the high rev range or when you put your boot into it. It is squashed just behind the front left wheel just before it goes into the wheel arch. Can I get a new replacement for this? If so does anyone know where? If not can the squashed piece be cut out and fuel hose be put in with hose clamps either side to fix the problem? The only thing that worries me about this is that it wouldn't be protected from stones or anything (the original piece looks to have a kind of flexible conduit around the line which I am guessing is steel. When people put in high horsepower motors they upgrade the fuel lines don't they? Should I just get the fuel lines upgraded? Do the lines get upgraded with rubber type fuel hose (even under body) or is it a steel hose? Any help with this would be appreciated.
