I have been looking at upgrading the EF ignition. Have settled on the MSD DIS-4 ignition module and are looking at the MSD GM-2 blaster tower coil packs, these are the ones for the V6 crummydors. Has any one fitted these coil packs to a EF and how hard is it or whats involved.

Watching this with interest. It's something I've wanted to look at, but have absolutely no idea about.

Well, I am in the process of buying the MSD Dis 4, new second hand for $400, I will probably fit this without coils. Any info on fitting the three dual output coils would be helpfull.

Yep understand that, but from what I have found out the GM 2 Blaster coils are a direct replacement for the V6 holden, so I am assuming some wiring or small loom would be required to suit the ford.

you can either use the stock coilpack, or the blaster 2 coils, but either way you will need to add wiring direct from the coil connector to the MSD box

have you guys looked at these coils???
they should plug straight up from my understanding but u just got to buy new ignition leads with the different coil plug end from your supercheap in the same lenght and you should be all good.

there has been a thread about those coils.

you'd need to buy a a set leads to suit a AU3 to use that coil.

you could also look at the blaster DIS coils, they are single post coil but can be wired in pairs for waste spark. they are only for use with DIS-2 DIS-4 and DIS-HO ignitions.

it appears to have the same H.T towers as AU2&3 falcons. Could fit coil and AU leads, presumably..

i see the MSD setup.

heres the setup
http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/8230_frm21166.pdf

the only problem with this setup would be the you have to buy 6 coils correct? which will get a little expensive but it will produce more powerfull spark them the coil pack i suggested. but then at the end of the day it comes down to how much you want to spend and how much power your chasing.

A couple of options there, For the moment I will be Fitting the Dis-4 with the original coil and see what that can produce. The MSD or Haltec dual output coils seem to be the best compramise between price and performance, for now this is the path I will be looking into. Thanks for the input.

How does that work?

The Blaster DIS Coils 8230 (http://www.msdignition.com/coil_blaster_2_8230.htm) - in the User Instructions (http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/8230_frm21166.pdf), it only shows how 4 of them can be connected to the DIS-4. How are 6 set up?

Any idea on the differences between the DIS-4 and DIS-4 HO - is the HO able to be used on a road car - it talks about it being from drag application, etc.

A coil on plug setup would be nice, as it would get rid of the need to mount the coils somewhere and run ignition leads. I know I'm running out of real estate in my engine bay with the LPG and intercooler pipes.
