They can do it, but the I6 is konwn for dropping back to idle slowly when cammed.

Use my method and you'll be fixed up within 30mins.

If they all do it, that doesnt make me like it. I'll give the bundy can method a go even though it sounds a bit like barn yard mechanics and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the advice.

Mate, you are dead right. Bundy bear to the rescue and its awesome. Comes straight back and still compensates for air con and power hook etc... Luckily I had quite a few bundy cans lying around after last night. Suppose if I just used a plain old coke can, it wouldn't have worked hey.
I actually used a 4mm hole in each side and adjusted up the throttle body just enough to get 700rpm on idle. Working brilliantly and thanks a million.

Hi mate.

The ef was programmed to hang the idle whilst slowing down from cruising.
It should however be no more than 1000 rpm.

Clean out your isc thouroghly and set your base idle speed properly.

The tps switch is also known to cause this problem

Mines stock and it does exactly that. Auto and it doesn't seem right. When it's warm it flares to 2000RPM at startup, takes too lone to come down, flick the accelerator pedal on and off just 1/2 a centimetre before the needle comes back down, and she revs back up and wavers up and down a bit trying to find a good idle, the needle just floats around until she settles. All this can take 10 or 15 seconds at least. During which time I can't put it reverse or drive because at those revs, she'll slam into gear and I don't like that.

Try just cleaning the valve...Mine was fine before mods.

Hello all, can anyone tell me why my EL XR6 takes about 3 seconds to come back to proper idle speed. Doesnt seem to be as bad when it is stone cold but when it warms up, i'm not game to rev it over 2k or when the clutch is pushed in, it screams for a couple of seconds. Have checked the cable and its not sticky, return spring is working properly. The butterfly in the throttle body snaps back very quickly but the engine continues to rev for a second and slowly comes back to normal revs but way too slow. Anyone had this problem?

Check the Switch on the Clutch pedal manual's normally keep revs up for 2-3 seconds when cluch is pressed. check the switch is contacting pedal and hasnt moved.

I had noticed a switch on the clutch pedal but thought it was just a cruise control canceling switch or something. I'll check it out though, thanks. They say its normal for these cars to keep the revs up, but I hate it. If you heard the car drive past, you would think I need to learn how to drive... If it was auto tranny, wouldnt notice it but really annoying with 5spd. i did put a restrictor under the isc and the revs came back really quick, but the idle started bouncing now and then so I took it back out.
