what happens when the battery is disconnected when an aftermarket ecu is used. does it have to be tuned again, or are the maps locked into the ecu??

They're all locked in Eddie.

Except most of the info on your home PC is stored on magnetic media.

The data on your ECU is stored in a Non-Volatile, Solid State memory chip :) Should be good for 100 years without power (or something silly like that).

thanks for the replies, im learning heaps from you boys. another question, does the ems have to be powered up (12 v) to be read by a pc. reason i ask is that i bought it off ebay and while trying to read from it on my pc it tells me that its off line or that its locked ( cant remember ). any ideas?

you gotta go to the menu and press online (or hot keys ctrl+O )
