As some of you may know my new focus has suffered from pinging and I have heard that it can be quite detramental to the efficiency of your engine in fuel usage.

We find that the focus will almost always get just over 400km's (430's) toa full tank when driving around the city, to and from work all week. the tank is 55l's so unless im stuffing up the calc (which believe me is 'very' likely) we are getting (400/55)= 7.27 k's to a litre.

My question is how does that stack up, I've never had a fuel efficient car before so I dont really have a grasp weather that is good or not, especially for a small car.

That is an excellent fuel efficiency seeing that most Falcon drivers get 10-12L/100km.

Sounds about right since my cousin's Jazz does 7.4L/100Km... I'm sure the Focus has a Trip meter that tells you how many L/km

put a tank of premium and octain booster in one fill and that might help the computer get a grip on controling the ping

I'll give that a go fifty. I just drove around looking for new tiles for our place and remembered to look at the computer to see what it thought, and it reckons that its getting 8.9K's to a liter.

now according to that I'm getting (over the computed average) 617.9K's to a 55Liter tank, I dont think thats anywhere near what Im getting. That sounds about right for highway driving but not around town.

by the way MikGan...the first calculation you did which was 400/55 means that you were calculating Kms/L...so for every 7.27Kms you would have used 1 L.

But you actually used 55/400 x 100 = 13.75L/100Km or 0.1375L/1Km.

That my friend...is pretty steep for a Focus IMO. That's as just lower then what I am doing in my car.

you must be pretty heavy footed to get the Focus to 13L/100km...that's a fair effort. My mates Focus only got up to 10L/100Km and that was harsh on the pedal.
