G'day

How do adjustable fuel pressure regs work and is it any advantage over the standard fuel pressure reg thats vacume operated?

Because i'm going megasquirt shortly i'm deciding on what to do with the fuel pressure reg. Do i go with the standard vacume operated or an adjustable one? How is the pressure set on them? I'm going to be running the standard 19lb injectors to start with and then maybe 24lb depending on how the fuel maps and every thing works out.

Your thoughts?

Cheers

adjustable ones still use vacuum. the adjustment is only the base fuel pressure. it still regulates the pressure using vacuum

Fuel flow of an injector is dependant on the fuel pressure it recieves, therefore using an adjustable fuel pressure reg to increase fuel pressure will give more fuel flow for the same sized injector. The downside of this is by pushing more pressure intot he injectors, it wears them out quicker, so IMO its only really a temporary fix. With aftermarket programable engine management you will see improvements if you are at the injectors power limit, with the factory system, a lot of the benefit is actually canceled out. When you consider that a decent adjustable fuel pressure reg is over $100 (the cheap ones tend to be inaccurate and very unreliable), I would just stick witht he reliable factory reg and put the money towards some larger injectors instead.
