Started the ole beast this morning and got the fuel alarm, no biggie as you know it starts doin that at 80k to go and so on. Except this time it said 0k to go and the fuel gauge was below E with the light on!!!

Funny considering it was about half full the evening before. Went and put $40 in and its nearly full!

Obviously there is a fault and I suppose the fuel sender but I ask for comment or advice as I've been wrong before. Also, if I am right, can I get advice on where the sender resides exactly and the best way to check it? I've found my old cars in the past to be quite variable in these matters so I ask knowing where it should but am open to modern ideas! (its probably on top of the tank and requires it dropped out knowing my luck)

Thanks Gurus

The level sensor is part of the fuel pump bracket in the tank.

To get to it, remove your boot carpet. Top left of the boot floor there is a round cover thats screwed into the boot floor. Remove the screws, cover comes up, and the pump is screwed into the tank.

Remove the fuel lines and wiring. There is a large plastic ring that holds the whole assembly in, with a big hose clamp around that... Undo the hose clamp, hammer the ring loose and unscrew it, and the pump and sender assembly will come out.

But I do warn you. Only do this with less than 3/4 of a tank of fuel. Any more, and chances are you will get pretty wet. :D

Thanks for your words of wisdom. Can you send me a bigger pic of your car? It looks exactly just like mine except it has the XR6 wheels I always wanted to buy! Looks sa-weet

When I get home I can. I'm in Brisbane at the moment...

But that pic is a little old. I took it when I first got the car, that was over 5 years ago now :?

Now it has EL GT's... Those XR rims are long gone.

Even better. If I had the budget (which I don't) those rims were my no.1 choice. I'd still like a pic of both if poss cuz then i can see what me ole beast would be like with both sets of my dream wheels!

Well done old bean!
