Sorry, I have been a little busy. Ive got all the schematics for all the e series off a mate that was a ford sparkie, so gimme a call if you still need them. Good timing huh :P

i thought the motec would have had its own map?
cant wait to see how it goes, its frustrating the first few k's, but you'll learn the program quiclky and then it becomes rewarding.

once you get the idle good, its easy from there ;)

good luck

About that Trip Computer/0Km to empty : You should be able to use an EB/D trip computer or internals shouldnt you? - they dont use the Data Line for info they read the fuel tank, and injector pulse-width directly. Would be a reasonable work-around if you could make it all fit in.

Nigel

Hey Nigel.

Trip computer is displaying 0KM to empty cos there is actually no fuel in the tank :P I'll be retaining the EEC-V just for DOL, so I can run Climate Control, Trip Computer, Cluster, Smartlock and all the rest... it will just have a minimal amount of sensors hooked up to it to allow it to function. Naturally injectors and spark wont be connected to it :)

Tuesday morning show and tell!

Updates from Sunday's work...

We had a successful outing to the local wrecker (On Easter Sunday!!) thank god they were open. We found a VN Commodore and stripped it of its 1 Bar Delco MAP Sensor. Works a charm! While I was there I also spotted an EA Falcon with Koni Adjustable shocks in the rear. They only watned $25 for the shocks, perfect condition.. so we took them :D

Back to Fordmods HQ, hooked up the MAP sensor and it was reading a steady ~100kpa. The 3 Bosch Ignitors were wired into the loom, so they're now ready to provide ignition (Ford slogan: we have ignition!). Over the course of the weekend I realised that the MoTeC loom which I purchased is missing some of the pinouts on the connector plug, so I'll have to get onto Motec this week and arrange some new pins and wires. Sadly it was missing 2 Ignition outputs (the loom only catered for those running a single coil (dizzy)) and its also missing all of the 8 Auxillary outputs.. so I cant hook up thermo fans or idle control :(

So still to do:
Connect Ignition to MoTeC
Idle Speed Control
Thermo Fans
AC Request
Pwr Steer Idle Request
Knock Sensor
IAT
ECT
HEGO

Turn the key :)

Hopefully next week she'll fire up.

Thanks for listening.. any questions?

Was your motec second hand, or is their quality control poor (re: missing parts) :!:

The ECU was 2nd hand, the loom was brand new.

I spoke to an engineer at Motec this morning, and he said that the looms are 'set up for the simplest case, which is probably not suitable for some of the more modern cars'.

I'd have 8 inputs and 8 outputs to spare if I was installing this into an HQ or something :)

So you found one to work with the I6 EEC? Let us know how this goes.

<OT>
I'll put it this way, I've found the HARDWARE to work with the EEC. Software is a different issue, I've got the tuning software, but there's no definition files for I6's. SO once I get it I'll put out a request to get dumps from peoples EECs. I've got an EL stocker, and an EL copper myself, but I'll want to get an EL XR, and EL Ghia. Hopefully from those I can get teh basis of a template going, then move into EFs. Of course I'll start working on the bent-8s as soon as someone gives me one 8-)
</OT>

Being an EF (Coilpack) it has a 36 tooth wheel (with 1 tooth missing) and a magnetic sensor on the crank for REF and it uses a Cam Position Sensor (hall effect, 50% duty) in place of the dizzy for SYNC.

So each time the motec see's a tooth on the REF (generated as an AC voltage from the magnetic sensor rising and falling over the teeth) it knows the engine has progressed a 10*. Beyond that, when it see's the missing tooth, it knows its back to the start - ala 1 crank revolution, 1/2 cam revolution.

It uses the Cam Position Sensor to figure out which side of the cycle the engine is on (compression/exhaust). The hall effect sensor rises for 50% of the engine cycle (1 crank revolution), and falls for the next revolution.

To accomplish the same thing on the EA-ED and EL 6cyl using the Dizzy and TFI module is actually easier, as you dont require a SYNC signal, just REF, as the MPEFI dizzy's have an extra edge (or a longer edge, cant remember) to help the ECU identify where #1 TDC Compression is.

In MoTeC land, we use REF Mode 18, which is for the Ford Dizzy. Not sure what the wolf equiv is.

You should come around so we can share some notes.. I need to borrow some of your fuel and timing maps :D
