I just replaced my old fuel pump with a new one. petrol goes in, car goes, but there isn't much power. when my old pump was reasonably working, it the fuel tank a few times with my fist when it stuffed up at the parking lot. she turned over and gave me a feel that there was more power to it or something. felt much smoother and more responsive when i pushed the pedal down. Then i installed the new pump, she pumps fuel in fine and the car idles very very quietly, can;t feel the car shake, but when i start from the lights she dies down a bit before moving forward and then no power at take off? i dunno whats happening.

Perhaps the fuel filter is slightly clogged?

Did you put in a brand new fuel pump or was it a used one from the wreckers ?
Yeh, sounds lame to ask but sometime people refer to items as being new from their perspective, not new as never have been used.. Cheers |

Put a pressure gauge in your fuel line and get one of those cheap jaycar oxygen sensor diplays. Take it for a drive. If you are getting lean then it is a fuel delivery problem. If your pressure goes down when your engine goes lean your delivery system isn't up to it.

the fuel pump is brand new. bought it from autobahn and it came with a new filter as well. the fuel goes in fine now, power is average but sometimes when i start the car, she turns and then the revs drop a bit and for a couple of seconds the car is struggling to idle. after that the car idles normally. i think its my battery dying on me since i tried to start her when the fuel pump was stuff. thanks for the help

when i replaced the fuel pump i had other issues to and found that the filter and injectors were full of crap. it might have been when i had to thump the old pump to get around.. so id be checkin ya whole fuel system

Does your car ping under load? If yes then check your timing.

well i seem to have all sorts of problems with the car now since i installed the new fuel pump. when i start her now, she starts but the engine shakes a lot, like it was about to stall and sometimes it even does
i might actually check everything. sparkies, oil, fuel line, injectors and fuel regulator. probably the distributor too. Vic what do u mean by ping? phong

When you are driving the car and you put your foot down, does the engine make a rattling ball bearing sound? Like shaking a paint spray can with a ball bearing inside it?

there is no rattling. she puts out when u slam it, but during start up, the engine stalls at first, and then after a second trial the engine turns and revs keep going between 300 and 1000 but not constant like it usually does. the battery light flashes once it hits low revs at about 300 while its jumping back and forth. after a few seconds the engine settles down and idles normally but higher then normal (im assuming normal is 750).
could either be idle settings, or regulator. im not sure if its the injectors fault but i might pull it out and check it. im going to check the fuel regulator before anything.

i did the same thing change the fuel pump then my car ran the same as you are sayin i went and got some second hand injectors it fixed the problem till they cloged up. i suggest clean out the whole fuel line & see if that works. im yet to do this my car as it runs on gas to so i havent worryed bout it to much.
if u do clean the whole line let us know how u go. |
