i have an xg ute witch at the momemt is only giving me 150km to the 60L tank. She is a 3.9L with a 5speed 3.27 diff. the story goes like this my heater module was leaking so on the weekend of the 29 march i removed the dash & replaced the heater module put every back together started her up, she was idling nicely at 800rpm so i turned the heater.the motor shut down & smoke started coming up from behind left hand kick plate ie my ecu. so i pulled the heat box restistors out and found them blocked up & shorting, so i quick clean later heater works fine but no engine, remembering the smoke from ecu i pull out replace it with the only other one i have the org from the 4.0L auto i changed in jan.
the motor runs but rough & raw fuel is coming out the exhust pipe so i quickly shut her down. I than pulled the manual ecu down to inspect the damage, found only 1 piece copper burned so i solder a piece thin wire to replace the damaged section put back in the ute started fine ran great had more low down power than before but still fuel out the exhust. so i tracked down a second hand ecu from a wrecker in singleton so been my only car i drive down to get it about 110km from home kiss goodbye to 3/4 of a tank. so i fit the new ecu at the wrecker refuel & drive home. I arrive home on less than a 1/4.
so i take to the ford deal in merriwa the nearest,& pick up later that day only to told theres nothing wrong with it, that i should drive with less of a lead foot, now to be honest most of miles are on the open road where i sit around 110-115.
so has only one come across problem like this or has any ideas where to look next? if not going to have sell my beloved fiona & buy another car to get around living out town is great but not without wheels.

What was it getting per tank before the heater module leaking?
Would like to know a comparison in kilometers from before and after.

Cheers

Do a diagnostic check for a crook sensor, the IAT or coolant sensor could be unplugged.
