Hi all, i have just bought an ef xr8. It came with no key fobs for the smartlock, so in order to start my car i flick the ignition to on the jump out and touch a wire to +12v away she goes. (sounds dodgy but ive done stolen checks and have receipts right back to original owner).

My question is if i get some fobs and program them in, am i then right to remove this wire and smartlock/central locking will work as normal, or is it not that simple. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks Justin

You don't need the fobs to start the car since I don't use the remotes to open the doors and use the key to open the doors. The key starts the car every time so I would think that you have another problem with your starting circuit.

As above, the fobs are just for remote access.

Try smacking the panel at your left knee whilst turning the key.
If the BEM has a fault, this is the way to test it! :P

I'd be looking at the rear of the ignition barrel, common for them to come unstaked. also check all wiring.
