I am looking at tuning my car using the Moates Quarterhorse Chip. This is because I will be able to do live tuning instead of having to use the the current SCT J3 chip setup.

Has anyone out there used this setup on the 4.0l and if so, what issues did you come up against?

I will be using the Quarterhorse chip with the Binary Editor 2012. So I will have no issues get the Binary. I have the Innovate 02 sensor, so there is no issue there as well.

Problem is I need the stratagies for a 6cyl 4.0. It appears that every thing that is available is for the 5.0 V8. I have been advised that I may not be able to get Live data from the Quarterhorse Chip as you can with the V8.

I have found that both the EF 6 ECU and the V8 ECU are 104 pins where the ED/EL 6 ECU is 68pin, so I am hoping that there may be some compatability between the EF ECU and the V8 ECU.

Any thoughts will be apprecated, and no I am not interested in using an aftermarket ECU at this point. Why should the 5.0L Boat Anchor boys have all the fun. :D

Pauly, i looked at this exact route with the green XR. There is ziltch in the way of any def bins for the I6 motor, you would actually need to write the bin file yourself. the reason there is so much V8 gear around is the US bent 8 guys. Even still there has been a fair bit of time invested to get them to work on the Aussie stuff.

In short, you would need to pioneer alot of the moates stuff for it to work on the I6, to the point that i would suggest it simply is not worth the effort.

Have a look at the Wolf 3D stuff, they have a bin file now to control the POS 4 speed cogswapper. I know you want to stay with the factory ECU, but i really think your going to have to move away from it, it simply is not cost effective.

should have put a KB on an AU V8 into the E series with AU ECU. moates pretty much have an off the shelf file for that, depending what size charger you got. Then you could get some real power to propel your grumpy a** around.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I did alot of research myself into it. J3 was still the way to go, 90% of the work is already done with it. Persevere, unless you have really hit a wall.

when are you coming out again on friday noght as well bTW?

Yeh I know this will not be an easy task, but I will be in touch with Moates US and see what they can offer. They do say that they will write code for any ECU that does not have current stratagies available and also data patches. I have also had the offer of code write here in AU for $400.00. And as you know I am a stubborn and persistant GRUMPY OLD C... so we will see where it leads, I just need someone in Aus to do a patch the the live data log. If not we will see what the Yanks can do.

Will try again for this week, if I can kick this flu, been over 2 weeks now.

I now have Definitions (Stratagies) and Binaries for the E series 4.0l, using TunerPro v5.

Information I have from Moates is that I will be able to do live tuning but I will need at data Patch to do Live Data Logging.

I am told that Derick Fenwick may be able to help with this matter but I am needing a contact for him.

Does anyone else have any information to assist with the patch?

Any assistance will be appreciated.

The Quarterhorse is loaded with a 4TBD Definitions etc. If I get a chance this weekend I will mount it up into the Std EF Fairmont ECU and see how it goes on the stock tune. I should be able to see how it runs and what info I can get back through the software, I have Binary editor as well as Tunerpro RT and EEC Analyzer, so we will see what happens. Even if I can't get live data, I will be able to live tune, so it will make it easier on the Dyno.

Hope to have this sorted soon as the PD Charger will go live in about 8 weeks, should have around 4,000km on the motor by then.

OK, for those interested.

Fitted up the new ECU with the Moates Quarterhorse fitted this morning, base tune is a 4TBD EF Ghis series 2 tune. Took to car for a short run and all performs well.

I will run it for the week to let the ECU do its learn and then play with the tune.

Lifter issue appears to be sorted, so will be looking at installing the actuator to the supercharger, fitting the 42lb injectors and the XR6T Fuel reg and then getting the tune done.

Very pleased at this point.

Can the binaries and definitions be uploaded to a TI J3 chip ??
I assume they can - the Qtrhorse stuff just has more functionality, e.g. tuning on the fly.
Am I right ??
