Hmm.. well - 8065 EPROM is not compatible with the 8069, and yep, the op codes do differ, so it's not surprise that you ran into problems there.
They're also different between the 8061 and 8065 (EEC IV vs EEC V), it wasnt just a memory upgrade. All of the 8065 disassemblers I came accross were just hoping that the 8065/8061 was a direct C196 family derivative, which it in a way is, but Ford adapted it in their own ways, so the C196 processors used in microwaves, hard drives etc, differ a bit from the EEC's.. differ enough to have problems while disassembling. On the note of low level programming, I dunno if I can be of any assistance.... in fact I should be working right now haha... stop distracting me.

Just for the info of others, the 8065 code differs mainly in the bank addressing, but otherwise it is very similar. Yup your right in saying that its not just your average C196 family derivative, but the yanks and the brits have spent a lot of time playing with it

AFAIK : (for those interested)
The main difference is more memory, more I/O, more flexible interrupt structure. With that comes different I/O reserved addresses, stack pointer register location, and main memory bus. I can just see the meeting back when they were teaming up with Motoralla, IBM, Toshiba, etc.. What we want is more, more, more, more... haha.. but yeah - IIRC - the 8065 also allowed direct access to 512 bytes (!!), by making use of the LSB as the bank selection for 16 bit instructions. But not all variants where "hotted up" like this, and the 8061 in contrast only supportsed 256 bytes of 8-bit byte addressible register space. (and from memory making use of several opcodes [21,22,23, etc] to create a sort of 10-bit-byte addressing scheme. Anyway - after reading the thread heading, this is more to do with tuning the cars with the J3 port, so we shall leave that discussion for another time... I was just a bit curious.

Can't speak for the VCT's, but one AFF member posted up yesterday that once his Moates gear arrived, after 6 hours of work he had new WOT spark and fuel mapping for his AU1 Windsor with Crow 1317 among other mods.

What do you mean by uncleaned? Do you mean that white gunk all over the terminals when you first look open the port cover? I have a 94DT ECU here like that if you want a photo of the port? |
