hey i just bought a seond hand wolf 3d ecu version 3 from a friend to put in my xf,im only using the igniton side and aux outputs only.after i fit it to the vehicle wots the next step?

Did you get the Wolf owners manual with it? Its not too hard to get a rough tune happening... then off to a tuner/dyno

i was told it comes with everything book/hand controller/wiring/etc.do i use a laptop to tune the car or the hand controller?

You can use either, I use the hand controller

I havnt got round to setting it up for ignition, so standard coil and retarded dizzy. Once Im happy with the fuel ARs I'll set up the ignition through the wolf.
You need to take a timing send from the ignition module and lock the dizzy. The wolf will send ignition through the dizzy. The manual explains it better though

so when it comes to adjusting the timing it is done thru the hand controller?

yep. At each 500 rpm and 8 load points. All the new ecus have much higher resolution... steps of 125 rpm, but the version3 still works very well

wot about a/f ratio's & boost control,can that be set also with the hand control?

no boost control, only V4 has that in the Wolfs.
Yep, ARs are done by setting the injector pulse widths at the same load and rpm points.
Your only using it for igntion right?

so if you say v4 has boost control thats wot this one is.he said to me it has boost control,hand controller,books.software,wiring,etc.

oh, maybe it does... mine doesnt but it could be newer than my v3, they change stuff around a bit
