Hello motor heads ,

a tuner can reprogram your limiter via a flash tune, but i'd try and keep it off the limiter, unless you want your oil pump gears to fail, and your engine to go bang.

Ok Dudes
Getting a good picture here about over revving and I do concede there . But and its a big but [much like J Lo 'S] or as my Mrs says does hers look big in this YES ! When it the limiter drops of and comes back on in that instant BANG!!! get the picture it hurts dudes !! So im thinking the number of times Im reaching the red band is not that much and the hole car can do with out the BANG BANG ! |

The rev limiter will cause this, its not a problem.
The only time (beside when set too high) that the limiter can be a problem is when its a fuel cut limiter and your running big boost. whats your limiter kill the engine at, and when it come back in? What boost you running?

It's that harsh it kills the oil pump gears from shock loading, so it is a problem.
I dunno, but it seems pretty simple to me to stop hitting the limiter?

I dunno whats to explain, all gears have lash, when they are accelerating at high speed then they suddenly stop it shock loads them, they are weak, you do it enough they break, your oil pressure goes bye bye?
Anyway, it's a known issue with them as Mr.Man said.

I know all gears have some lash, but s**t i've never heard of them failing like that, wow.

An 04 manual FPV should have the shift alert chimes, so change when they go off.
Removing the limiter is bad, as already discussed. The rev limiter is implemented via spark cut, and is harsh. Speed limiter is implemented via fuel cut, and is gentle (very), If there's a way to run the same limiter for revs too, I'm not sure (a tuner will be able to answer), but that opens up the issue of running the engine lean, at what would most likely be maximum boost and maximum load (e.g. WOT). Best bet, is learn to drive better, keep it off the limiter. Unless it's tuned (and possibly even if it has) it won't still be making power that high anyway, so there's no gain in revving it that hard. Shift when the chimes goes off.

as steady ed said, its the harsh cut that causes damage to the oil pump gears, as not hitting the limiter is the easiest way to avoid it
 i wouldnt raise the limiter above 6k rpm, 6250rpm at an absolute max with a stock engine.

drive at 8-9 10ths instead of 10-10th's.. -With that power and hitting the limiter on the street often enough to annoy you... Where are you going in such a hurry "jamie whincup??
