I just bought my first car, its a 1962 falcon deluxe, with 170 pursuit and the fordomatic 2 speed auto.
The engine needs a rebuild, So im thinking i want to put the crank from the 200 and maybe bore it out a bit.

As well as this i want to put the later head so i can run a tripple carby.

Just wondering if there is anyone with experience with this sort of thing, if the above will work and any other things to look out for.

If he goes ahead with the 221 & 2V head set-up, he'll need to fit it with disc brakes on the front......and the chances of finding a 221 & a 2V head these days is gunna be hard.

I have a disk brake kit coming for it anyways, as well as getting a new booster and master cause they are shot. Im not sure about the engine yet, cause the previous owner has sort of killed it, if the block is gone im thinking a 302 crate motor and top loader or something, but i would like to keep matching numbers.

Hang on there son.... you put a 5 ltr crate motor in her, and when you rev the engine, you ill be able to feel the door gaps move in and out.... This might be one whereby a steady balanced approach might yeild the best results. This is a little early for me, will a 2v even go on. Hidden under the original air cleaner with a 350 holley, ya might be able to slide under the radar. Obviouosly things like triple 45 DCOE weber carbs are gone arouse a little attention... Daz

I havent really thought about it too much, probably after christmas before the 170 comes out for inspection. But from memory i think they put a 427ci 425 hp in the falcon sprint in the states. So ill look into 6 cylinder options first.

hehehe, sounds like not fun :P but i do agree 200 hp is probably a decent amount for that chassis, with the auto and open diff it will spin the wheels with a shotty 170 making about 80hp fly wheel

Dude....your 18 ????, yes?.....then a V8 is out of the question for a while, eh?
You could slot in an alloy headed Xflow, and appropriate transmission.....even with a mild cam, that thing will go well, coz they weight stuff all.......a lot easier to come by.

+1 instant unleaded conversion and many gearbox options, either 3.3 or 4.1 but the 3.3 would best suit for economy with heaps of go for the light body.

Im guessing all of these box/diff options ill have to cut a hole in my transmission tunnel for manual (i wouldnt stick another auto in) as i currently have 2 on the tree. though i will want to keep the bench seat, probably the best feature of the car ;)

they ran 3 speed column up into some xf's but for 4 or 5 speed then yes would need hole cut, if you could find a 6 cylinder cortina single rail 4 speed they have the shifter further forward.
