Bought a temp sensor today for my EL I6 and the salesperson asked me which one?? I thought there was only the one thats on the thermostat housing but the other one that he showed me was a smaller barrel type that about the size of a ciggy butt with a single spade terminal. If this one does exist on the I6 where is could it be located?? Its apparently to sent temps to the ECU.

From what i've read so far the multi-wire plug is for the ECU, and on the EBII etc the single spade talks to the dash temp guage. I'm not sure about the EL, but i have an EL motor and thermostat housing so i should know or could check, but then so could you, i guess. But i'm sure someone will know.

Yeah i have climate control but im sure they wouldnt have a seperate sensor just for that on the engine. I've had off the head before and have never had to unplug anything from the main loom apart from 1 temp sensor, oil sender, knock sensor, speedo sender/trans loom. I have never seen of heard of this other temp sensor till today. Unless he was talking about the external temp sensor that is for climate control that i have never actually seen in my car before as its located at the front of the car.

He's getting his E-Series 4Ls mixed up I think.
EF/EL don't have a seperate temp sensor for climate control or dash because they both get that data from the ECU.

yep
in the ef/el all the info is recieved from the large coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing and the ecu does the rest..
but in eb/ed thay have a large collant temp sensor for the ecu.and a seperate sender for the temp guage(small one with the spade terminal) and a 3rd one for climate controle.

The above posts are correct.
The gauge sender is compatible between EBII and EL, the calibration is the same, EA/EBI is slightly different.
Why do you need a new temp sensor? - they're normally trouble free.
