Hey everyone, last night I drove from Bris to rockhampton to pick up an XH ute. I started driving from rocky back to Bris at 9:30 this morning and all has been good so far, but I've just reached Maryborough and the car is seriously down on power.

I know it has these minor problems:

The oil pressure sensor needs to be replaced, it is leaking slowly from there. I'm pulling over at regular intervals and making sure the oil level is OK.

The throttle cable IS stretched, but I've had someone in the car and I've watched them put their foot flat to the floor (car turned off obviously) and the cable is pulling the throttle body open at least 90 % and when the car is in neutral and you give it a rev, it isn't short of any at all.

The whe way down the temp hasn't gotten above the low side of "L" on the temp gauge, so it's not running hot.

It just doesn't have the guts it had before, it will BARELY chirp second and it is sluggish under load.

These are the mods (off the top of my head)

Full exhaust, extractors and hi flow cat.

Cam

Chip And tune

Heavy duty clutch

Locker

I can't work out why it's losing so much power, there's definitely a noticeable loss in torque and acceleration and it hasn't been overheated, run out of oil or thrashed?

I'll check this once I get back to Brisbane. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Is it losing power just when you go hard? Could be fuel filter having a sook, if u brang tools you might be able to get one from super cheap if it's in your area

Is the ute down on power from when you started driving or down on power from what you expected?
What cam is fitted?

I'd say it's a bit down on power from when I started, but I have driven it before and it's definitely down on power. It used to spin third in the dry (not a standstill, actually change gears and spin 3rd). I got home to Brisbane last night, I'm taking it around to a mates soon to do an oil and filter change and swap the pressure sensor for a new one. I'll take some photos after she has a bath.

Anyone got any ideas for the fairly dramatic loss in power? Don't get me wrong, it still goes well... Better than any other non turbo falcon I've driven, even with the throttle cable, but as I said its still getting 90% throttle, so idk what's up with it.

I doubt it's the fuel pump, it's not surging under power, it's a smooth delivery.

you could be getting use to the power, you must be doing some pretty hard shifts to be getting 3rd gear spin with only 150rwkw.

That's true, I could be getting used to it. The power loss since I picked it up yesterday isnt that dramatic, but from when I first drove it, it's definitely down. Even my mate who owned it was scratching his head. It used to spin second and third without a drama with a semi hard shift and first with a roll on.

I show all my cars a lot of mechanical sympathy, I hate the sound of a car on the limiter or a hard shift causing the driveline to sound like a grenade. I don't rape it, lol.

Not on LPG is it? - Induction hasnt heated up? - Cold = better performance.

Possibly also a timing issue? - dizzy gear wearing fast?

Nah it's not LPG, it would be good if it was. The cam in it chews through a bit of juice.

I don't think it's a timing issue either, it revs smoothly and pulls well, just not as well as it has in the past. If it was to do with the dizzy, would there be anything I could look out for to determine if that's what it is?

Thanks for the help so far.

The air filter is clean, it's an exposed pod. At some stage I'll get around to putting a box around it, but it's not dirty. The filter is new and it had no airbox when I drove it, too.

It doesn't really make sense, though. Especially since it wasn't stressed out on the way down here?

O2 sensor and/or cat converter?
Blocked cat certainly gives you less power. O2 not working correctly puts wrong mixtures in possibly poisoning cat too?
