I just upgraded my Ef to a BA and on whilst driving etc. you can really smell the coolant through the heater comming in. You can also smell it in the engine bay etc. Car's only done 120000km and its not loosign coolant!!!

any ideas or thoughts?

Really paranoid cause with the EF it was similar and i found a leak out of the head on the exhaust but that was after 200000km's..

damn cars.

he's exagurating a little bit, but yeh the heater core is under the dash.
30 min job to remove the dash when you've done a few (and yes ive done a few for various reasons.)

there was one bad batch of heater cores for ba's in 2002 or early 2003, besides that ive probably seen 2 cars come thru work in 18 months need a heater core, and we see on average probably 30-40 BA a day.

id suspect heater core as well . we get on average at least 1 a week for heater cores.
check the drivers side foot well for dampness.

thing is though when you open the hood there is a strong smell of coolant there as well so im hoping that maybe there is a leak somewhere in the engine bay and its coming in through the vents perhaps but cant see any obvious leaks at all.

and for ford to take out the dash etc. they want up to $900 for the total job..

I Reckon you're all wrong, the most common Problem in the BA as far as coolant is concerned is the O Ring in the water pump, They leak, Was a fault carried through a few models. Its drip down onto the block to the front under your zorst. Ford fix it for around 100 bucks if I recall. Its in and out in a few hours.
