I have an NA fairlane with the 3.9, its conking out at low speeds, like 2kmh..
example. Today had to park it, moved it a few metres forward it was a slug but ok, moved it a metre backwards and it shuddered and stopped. What are the usual things to do when this happens? Might have bad fuel (filled it 4 months ago been sitting still since) but if it isnt that what could it be? Also refuses to start after it conks out.

but sometimes it is a total C*** to start

What about when you apply throttle in Neutral or Park?
And this only happens when cold yes?

throttle is slow on the uptake but the engine seriously roars at high revs in N or P.
Yeah only cold starts. I havent had it at road speeds yet (ie 60kmh) want it to be perfect before chancing it on the roads.

try changing the fuel filter.spark plugs well give it a good service......maybe even drop the fuel and refill it could have water in it.....was it under cover the whole time????

it was under a car cover. But not garaged, ill give the fuel filter n new fuel a go then see how i go.
