Same motor, different head arent they? The ports dont flow as well as later model heads, but thats life.

haha this thread is funny cause only a few hours ago i posted a poll asking the same thing in perthfalcons

i say stick with the 3.9, do a little head work, port and polish, and it should be sweet, as for the 4 litre, it means running smart-lock (or bypass), BEM, extra wiring ect ect ect...way too much work if u ask me for an extra 100 mL

oh is it multi-point?? if not then yeh go for the 4L or get a 3.9MPI :D

hope that helps buddy im still tossin up on the decision tho

There are small differences in the head between each model really, nah I think the main difference is the 3.9L copped a slightly smaller bore.

and what is this based on ??

i have a 4 litre in my ea,,used all the running gear off the 3.9..

all the things you mention have nothing to do with the motor,,its all in the electronics built into the car itself.

also to add to this. not ALL 4L came with smartlock. EB I (some were 4.0) didnt have smartlock. my NC II has a 4.0 but was made in the period before smartlock was released. and as stated smartlock has nothing to do with the motor. its acts as an imoboliser. thats why there are a few ES's with AU motors in them ;)
