5.0L will take the win, just as long as you dont try and rev it too hard. Put economy switch on, and shift it manually with the t-bar probably best around 4700rpm-5000rpm.

i thought economy changes at the same points when you are WOT. I think economy only just changes quicker if you on the accel a little bit

Econ doesnt hold gears as long. When i first started racing the 5.0 she would do a 16.5 in pwr mode and 16.3 in econ. Changed up earlier and didnt hold gears as long. Ask Green machine about it. His was hitting the limiter at the track, until he switched to econ and then i would launch and go hard.

All I can say is take an LS1 for a drive, I was certain that I was driving a 3.6 and thought it was gutless for a V6. My wife's 3.0L Magna takes off heaps better. For driving around town or for towing the LS1 is absolutely pathetic.

i drove a thrashed out one, and i would agree they are like that, but then i drove a low km vy ss ute m6. the torque those things have down low compared to the boss eqivelant is unbelievable. So i bought it.

sorry will get to the track asap. plenty of rain lately so opportunities are limited.

its going to be close, I think the 5.0 should jump away off the line a little better, hmmm dont know if the six is going to come home.

I hand timed both cars, both about 7.5 secs 0-100km/h. same road, same launch etc. I wonder which car would pull harder from 100km/h to 140km/h about the speed we would cross the line..

take off is even, then the i6 slowly pulls away.then the i6 would have it until the start of third gear, but half way through third the v8 will start creeping. ive seen it done so many times.
cruse at 130km and then full throttle both cars so you can see the difference the in 3rd.

try this test to see which will pull better at the final stage of the strip.

cruise at 100k's on the freeway early morning when its empty then pull 3rd and time how long it takes to hit 140.

bet the V8 is a fraction quicker.

I know my falcy doesnt like 3rd on the highway, you need to blip 2nd for about a second or so to get a good overtake. Needs a 5spd manual badly.

definately have it in econ and manual shift yourself. if you have power mode on it will hold even though youve shifted and thats a bastard.

my cars keeps going pretty well if i let it go into 3rd. Maybe you need a decent exhaust system to get the power when the motor is working that hard.

nah its just gearing the motor isnt working hard... iirc dropping to 3rd at 100 kms hits about 2500 rpm or so, and thats just when the torque starts to come on. it doesnt start to pull until about 2800 rpm, and the time taken to build that 300 rpm with tall gears is like massive turbo lag lol.

its a totally different story if you drop to 3rd at 120. 3000 rpm straight up right in the sweet spot. pulls well. for a stocker.

generally speaking after market exhausts really only help out mid range and top end power. Falcons have tonns of down low power its just geared all wrong with the 4 speed auto. hit 3rd in the 5 speed manual and you will see what overtaking on a highway is about in a 4.0 six.

what i meant was you might notice when stock ford i6, there is a good 2 seconds rite when it goes from 2nd to 3rd where its almost sluggish compared to the 8.
dont gee me wrong race any holden v6 above 100 and youl pound them no problem but compared to a 8 you could almost say it jumps out of the power range for a sec. well not really but its because the gears are so long that it feels like that.
GeZza200 i also admit that after adding exhaust extractors and a filter its much more punchy at mid to high revs which helps heaps when you jump into third.
either way hurry up and race. i want results

ahh well theres the difference. in 2nd at that speed the car accesses high rpm. Ford SOHC i6's naturally drop off after about 4500 rpm in horsepower, mostly due to the exhaust system designed to deliver economy and low NVH levels. Change that to AM headers and exhaust and its a whole new ball game above 3000 rpm. Thats why a stocker will feel like nothings happening if you hit 2nd. you just use it for a heartbeat to load up rpm so that you get a little more outa 3rd when it changes up.

its all about where the power is located and how it is accessed. you drive according to details.

sounds about right for a good exhaust setup. when I had the EB and put the genies and 2.5 on I noticed a big improvement from 3000 to redline.

damn thing needed a cam though :D
