Is their an ideal cyl head to use and if so what casting numbers are on it . I came into possesion of a head with 91AA cast on the front of it and would like to reco it so when the time comes to changeover it is juat a half day job and my daily will not be off the road .

Thanks fellas , SWC you seem to know more than most in here , is my car going to be a dog with the 91AA head ? Does anyone have a 94AB or 94 DT head for sale ? I'll put a post in the wanted to buy section too .

What car are you putting it into? Your EF? They were stock in late EFs and early ELs you'll find that it will be fine I reckon.

If you already have the 91AA head (EB2/ED), it is fine to use. There isn't going to be any noticeable power difference between them.

Cheers fellas . Sorry should have mentioned it is going onto my daily driver which is a 1996 EF Futura which with 370,000 k's is starting to use about half a litre of coolant per month .

The heads changes where the half moon seals on the rocker cover are...
The EA had the half moon rubber and the head casting was narrow so the rubber "clipped" over the head... The late ED and EF onward had the cast moons on the rocker cover and a skinny rubber which sat on the groove in the head... The head was wider in these grooves to prevent oil leaks... Found this out when I tried to fit a later model rocker cover on a early head... The seal nearly sat half off the polished moon surface in the head... If you used a heap of seal goop it would probably alleviate that problem, but is something to look out for... Cheers, Tim

Half a litre of coolant a month isn't much...especially if you suspect a head gasket. I would say look else where for a leak. Either way, I'd say get another EF head if you can...won't make much, if any, difference between Tickford and Standard heads if you are running stock cam, fuel reg and ECU.

I thought a little while ago, that someone mentioned that the best NON Tickford head for flowing good numbers without porting/modifying was the 91AA head......anyone remember this ???
