aw bugger. my analogue one died a while back... it was ancient anyway, but my fav diagnostic tool :S

but any thoughts as to the extreme exhaust temps im getting?

keep in mind that i VERY rarely push the car at all, the hardest push its gets really, is 120 on the highway.

it was seriously hot enough that i touched it with my leg whilst opening the boot, and have a huge oval burn. (i think it will scar). exhaust temps, my best guess is 80+ degrees. white paper starts to curl, but not smoulder in front of it, teh plastic window on an envelope melts (i dont have a >50 deg thermo yet). in any case, its rediculously hot for a stock engine

Which is part of m/meter..

The reason exhaust is hot ? Possibly the engine is runing rich and cats are burning off excess fuel....
That brings in [maf V8], Map[6] tps and o2 sensers...Maybe even inlet temp senser???Thermostate too cold or not working....Retarded timing also...

Yes but to measure resistance your multimeter puts a slight current through the sensor which stuffs the sensor.
