i have just used the same VRS kit on my EF but it has only been in the car for about 3 days. The water jacket cutouts on the headgasket lined up with the water jacket ports on the block and the head ok

It's done to redirect water flow. They used to blow the gasket between 5 and 6 all the time. If the water passages are too big there isn't enough water flow to the back of the engine.

My advice would be to throw the head gasket in the bin, and only use the rest of the kit.
