its a normal socket designed for use with impact drivers the walls are heaps thicker and a higher quality steel is used,i would never touch a head bolt without one had no issues when using them, i picked up a set from supercheap auto for thirty bucks and they are great quality(suprisingly).

yeah supercheap have a cheap set that work well. Just 10-30$ . They are designed for ipact guns and only have 6 sides so basically they are super strong. We aboused the 13mm for the head bolts at the wreckers so much that it was perfect as a 14mm.

But were they impact sockets there is a BIG difference in brands also

Well today Leroy and had a go at the power steering and the head. Power steering refuses to come apart from the head, though we seem to have undone all the bolts. We got to head bolt number 9 and it did round slightly. Since then we were unable to get the socket to sit right, and stop rounding the bolt. Any recommendations on how to get it out? It simply won't budge, just keeps on rounding. Thanks again to Leroy, really appreciate him coming all the way to South Brisbania to lend a hand and drop off parts for the head gasket change. You should have undone the bolts holding the pump to the bracket and layed it aside in the empty battery box as there are other bolts holding the bracket on you will see AFTER taking the pump off. after the pump and bracket are off it is an eady matter to undo and remove the tensioner. ANY other help just ask

K guys I got the head off, and took the power steering pump off in two hits, as there were bolts hiding behind the pump itself, as per GTBob's post.
Uploading pictures of the devastation under the head now, lol. Watch this space. Edit: Thanks Nicko

Okay, here are the pictures after the head came off. Question to follow.
Block shots. 
Head gasket. 
Unknown item.

Okay, the block is absolutely filthy. Heaps of junk on the pistons, the block, everywhere. How should I go about cleaning all this up an what should I use to clean it all up? Is gunk falling down into the sump a worry, how do I stop that if it is? I have no idea what the little piece of metal or whatever it is, is. It was sitting as it is first pictured, that's it again in the second picture. Any ideas, is this a concern? Last pictures are the parts, thanks to Leroy for them. Where do the two plastic/rubber looking sealant things meant to go? There is the big grey one, and the small black one. With the head gasket, when it is laid down on the block, do you have to put some sort of sealant on it? I'm asking this because it was done with the EA on eseries.com.au (picture below). Lastly, when I put my head in, what exactly am I wanting them to do? To clean it and recondition it, or what? O and how do I get those coolant pools out of the block there? Thanks for the help.

That unknown bit looks like a piece of timing chain tensioner. I'd be checking them.
The big grey seal is the rocker cover seal. The little black c sorta shaped one goes at the front of the head gasket on the top of the timing cover. Where it meets the head gasket (where the red circles are in the pic) is the only place you should need sealant. To get the coolant out, on the side of the block (if my memory is correct) there should actually be a small bolt (about 10 or 11mm). It is actually a plug and will let you drain the coolant. I could be wrong there tho. As far as what you should have done with the head...well how longs a piece of string? At least get it pressure tested and faced. If you can afford it get it completely recoed.

All I want with the head is tested and cleaned. Think a mechanic will be fine with that? I can just see these bastards talking over me and trying to explain that I must have it reconditioned.
