You should definitely get the head checked and skimmed while it is out...doesn't cost much...its silly not to.

Its a piss easy job, I did it using the gregories too, just follow that and you'll have no problems...I actually found it interesting and fun believe it or not...love getting my hands dirty...

Use an au metal head gasket man!

Not too bad a job - Done with teh engine still in teh car

Basically -
-remove your air intake box and piping
-Remove Thermo Fans
-Disconnect radiator hoses and drain radiator then remove rad
-Remove exhaust Manifold off
-Disconnect throttle and cruise cables from throttle body
-Remove inlet manifold
-Remove rocker cover and cable tie your timing chain
-Remove timing case, start working down till tyou get head off

It is definantly worth getting the head checked out, they will clean it and test it to make sure its not warped or cracked - will cost about $100

You definantly need a torque wrench to torque your head bolts etc up

Definately get the head checked!

The last one i did that was blown in the same spot ended up being too soft, we had to get another head for it.

Get it surfaced, pressure tested and also ask them to do a hardness test.

Okay, thanks lads. Saw a torque wrench at autobarn today. Sidchrome I think? One of those good brands, $99. Saw other cheapies too, or better to go quality?

Are the coventry gasket sets and all that AU spec, or do I have to go Ford directly?

Hahahaha, that cracked me up!
Good to see you blokes are willing to lend him a hand.

hahaha I also found this funny.

Well I'll be keeping an eye on this thread...surely will learn something from this and prepare myself when the EL head blows.

Might need to invest in a torque wrench myself and an air compressor.

Good luck Adam
