for a budget build ea consisting of mods limited pretty much to zorst (have), cam (have), extractors (dont have), 3.45 diff (dont have), thermofans (soon) etc is it really worth paying 500$ or so for pacies?

or for value for money am i better off picking up something like these for the car ($100):

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/6206/tickfordbn0.jpg

even though they do look kinda dodge and wouldn't flow as well as the smooth pacies obviously, surely they are a vast improvement on the restrictive factory system?

or am i better off going in between dodgy ones and pacies and getting something like genie or hi tech headers, or even the ebay ones?

haven't used any extractors other the normal factory ones, advice appreciated.

and not to be bossy but please keep in mind I don't want the BEST extractors, i want the BEST VALUE FOR MONEY extractors (ie if the genies are 80% as good as the pacies but half the price i'd go the genies).

car is a regular MPFI 6 cyl 3.9 manual EA.

thanks in advance.

alright well i have had a bit of a look throughout the various ford forums.

have concluded that pacies are best, lukeys are the s**t, and genies are not bad.

my question is, who stocks genies and how much would genies cost? pacemakers are out of my budget, lukeys i can do better for the money supposedly, and the $100 link looks real dodge in design. so, who has some genies on their car?

Secondhand ones that are reletively new will give you the best bang for your buck, there is a set in the For Sale forum atm for $300 i think :)

Steer clear of those $100 ones for starters there far from being tuned lengths and also that heat wrap can cause welds to crack. you void warranty on most extractors after doing that.

Ebay and wreckers you would be suprised what you find just give them a good look over first.

the ones in that pic with the heat wrap are genie or copies?
i have genie extractors that are identical..

i think that heat wrap will warp and crack extractors is a myth?

i had heat wrap on a couple sets of extractors on my valiant 6 my valiant v8 and they didnt crack or warp at all.. they have been on the extractors for more than 5 years now and my mate ownes the v8 now and it still has the heat wrap on them!
there is no sign of leaks or warpage..

a few mates of mine have genies and are happy with them

hmm they have the advantage that they bolt up to the cat and don't require modification like pacies..

i got quoted 370 new for pacies but i wouldn't be able to chop up the cat and weld it myself, which would mean 550 by the time i am out...

these things i could do myself...

do you think these are that much better than the standard headers? compared to the design of pacies which i guess are the benchmark, these things don't look to good..

something i hate about ebay: if you look at the bid history it is obvious bidder1 is the seller, he can make the price whatever he wants just to squeeze out the extra dollar........

the standard headers suck! plain and simple, once you compare stock to after market you wont be able to believe what you used to live with.

RE: bidder1, the bidding history only shows usernames to the person selling, so for example, if i was to bid on the item, you would only see bidder3 or similar, rather than SgtBourne

so bidder1 is just the person who first placed a bid on the item

any extractors would be better than the std header..
im not convinced getting pacies will give me any more performance with my set up!..

although if you got alot of engine/head work you may gain a few kw,s from the pacies ..
but on a std or near standard engine i dont think you will notice any difference from the pacies compared to genie or motorvator ect...

it comes down to value for money. if you have genie extractors that you paid .say $200 and put it on the dyno and then you put pacies that cost say$350 and put it back on the dyno the differences would be between 1 to 3 kw maybe? so you pay $150 more just for the name?

and with ebay you cant bid on your own items. but there is nothing that says you cant get a friend to up the bids lol

so i just put a bid on the motivators, as soon as i do i get an automatic rebid by someone else who has now outbidded me.... first time i signed up to the thing i already wanna exit it.

out of the genies and the motivators in the ebay links, how much should i be paying? both look fairly old, the genies appeal to me more though..

where can i buy genies from new does anyone know? i rang a few exhaust shops, most only stock pacemaker.

the best thing to do is wait untill the last few minutes and bid then..
if there at $120 in the last couple of minutes place your maximum bid.
so if your willing to pay $200 put that as your max bid.for example; if the other person bidding has his max bid at $180 and he doesnt have time to bid you will get them for $182.

i wouldnt pay more than $200 for 2nd hand extractors..
