Nip into a ford dealership and ask them to tell you whats wrong.

Do not stuff around with airbag systems there dangerous. The dealership can download the airbag errors and then tell you whats broken.
Its most likly a crash sensor behind the bumper.

That's BS, you are able to diagnose the fault without any fear of it going off. Just don't actually plug / unplug anything while the battery is connected.

The flashes are actually a code, they're not random
The codes are 2 digits separated by a pause, and then there is a longer pause between codes.

Eg flash flash flash pause flash flash = code 32

Read this:
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=3

And then if you can't work it out, try using this:
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=51

The airbag system is nothing to be scared of if you are careful.

By the way when the airbag light is on the airbag system is disabled, it won't activate if you have an accident.

PS this shouldn't be in 6cyl area

Twisted,

I dont know this persons level of knowledge. There for I err on the safe side. Some people do leave the power on and there listening to the radio on ACC while working on there cars.
If they unplug the wrong thing they could have a big bang in the cabin.

Safty First. Most dealerships wont charge to download the Airbag system.
I never did when I worked at one. But I saw heaps of people come in with exploded Air bags because they were fixing them at home.

I've met him a few times and I reckon as long as he knows the safety precautions going into it that he'll be fine.

Since it's an EL you'll have to go to Ford to get the codes cleared once it's fixed anyway.

2) Turn the Ignition ON, and observe the 6 second AirBag indicator Prove out.

3) Immediately after the Airbag Lamp has turned Off, Remove the Short on the Airbag Clear Line.

Airbag Circuit High Resistance, or Open Circuit

Please read the table at the end of this url

have you worked on your steeringwheel latley or any of the eletrical wiring in that area with the ignition on ACC ?

Airbags are active when the ignition key is turned to acc. helps save your life if your sitting in the car and somone runs in to you.
