does that flow better? i would have thought a panel filter was the obvious choice with more surface area and the luxury of not having to mod the airbox to fit

the pod by itself will suck in hot air, you would be better off with the box back in, but you loose you induction noise.

i noticed with my friends k & n panel filter, i was missing the low down power that the pod helped me get, of course, this is all wot ive felt, i havent got dyno proven results, but for me, the pod does me excellent

cant go past either a pod or a panel filter in the standard box keeping the induction temps down by having an enclosed filter... take your pic.. pod or filter.. 50/50.. just keep it enclosed.. and get as much fresh air to it..

wheres the pod vs panel doco? does one exist?

I got a pod (3") on my EA MPFI and it uses less fuel, and has more power.
It's been on there since 2000.

ive had both pod in box and exposed...great for induction noise and i achieved better fuel eco too, expecially with it exposed for some reason..

Pods bring out the "Induction roar", whether it be on a 4, 6, 8, 12 cyl engine. Even the old triple SU's put out a roar, as well as triple Webers & Del'Orto's. Its a harmonics thing, and changes with camshaft profiles too.
