hate to burst a bubble here...but ef and el's are different
only a very slight difference, but enough to cause your entire belt setup to be out of whack...

What is the difference, as I've seen EF and EL compressors mixed without a problem.

If you pulled a compressor off would all the gas blow out

The diff is that the pulley wideness.....the efs (or el's, cant member) are a little wider...meaning the belt will be a little further forward or a little behind, depending on which one u use. Its not a great deal....but its enough to throw it out sometimes.

Any yes, if you pull it off gas will come out. Even if you think there is nuthing in there. What you do is just loosen the suction and dishcarge hoses very very slowly letting a little out at a time. This will ensure you don't make a mess and breath in the gas. It will appear to be a liquid, but most will be fumes. So let a little out at a time and it will come out easy as diarea. lol.

So if that's the case, all pulleys inc harmonic, power steering, alternator, water pump and idlers are different between the 2?

Well i know for a fact that the steering pump is not diff, but the mounting position could be. And the same for the rest, mounting postion maybe?

All i know that when a customer calls up for an EL comp, it must be an EL, and at work we have a separate crate for ef's and el's. A OEM book also states the same, that EF and EL have diff size pulleys and coils.

Im gonn ahave to check this again 2mora....i have a feeling im wrong. which sucks.

But is the bearing inside the pulley different? or can I swap the EF 1 over onto the EL comp?
