Hey guys just questioning (prob something that has been asked before), how restrictive are the ef intakes (box to throttle body) on the six's compared to say a xr tickford one or even an au one??

Also what are they worth and is there anyone in melb that knows where to get em from?

the XR intakes are the same, from memory the EL intake flows the best, but you better off doing something custom, you can get an exhaust shop to do you a 3" madrel bent intake not a cheap option but the best by far

Yeah, XR are the same.

If your going to replace it, I'd go 3" mandral. An exhaust shop could probably make u up one.

Contrary to popular opinion, J.M.M. says the EF Falcon's divided passage induction pipe between the airbox and throttle gives more power than the larger, single-bore pipe used on the EL and AU. A fabricated 3 inch mandrel pipe is necessary only for engines making more than 140kW at the rear wheels. Gains also depend on the type of headers and exhaust system used.

this is taken straight off the jim mock website. something to think about before you rush out spending money

I said it another thread and will say it again here:

AU no air filter, standard piping ran 118rwkw

AU with EF air intake and POD attached ran 118rwkw

These were done back to back, so you work it out, I fail to see any gains being had, the EL/AU intake just looks pretty.

why did you run the au one with no filter or do you mean no pod filter just std panel??? otherwise it tells me the ef one does flow better as its just as good as au minus the filter

We ran the AU with no filter to remove all restriction of the drity panel filter that was in it. We then put the whole EF setup on to see if it did better or worse, it managed the same exactley.

So yes the EF does flow very well, but just as good as the AU, I would need to test my EF/POD setup on a car running even bigger figures to see how far it goes.

i don't mean to harp on but if you left the filter in on the au one it would be reasonable to assume that it wouldn't have got 118 but maybe around 2 - 5 kw less so therefore its not 'just as good' as you put it but having said all that i realise i am splitting hairs. the look of the ef one is not for everybody (i don't mind it) and so changing to the later model one is not really going to matter although as shown it won't improve anything except the look of the engine bay

The filter was very dirty and was a restriction as you of about 2-5rwkw, if we could have got a clean one, I would have been happy to test it as well, my main point of the test was actually to see how much potentially my intake could flow, I know that 118rwkw is possible at least, so I was happy.

Riddells Creek...
Very close to me... didn't go to Gisborne Secondary did you?

Dellboy999, I duno whether you're an Autospeed Subscriber, but they did an intake test on something, and with a VERY dirty filter, the difference in pressure drop between it and no filter at all, was nothing. Well not literally nothing but f**k all, you get the point...
As much as K&N, BMC and the like want you to think there filters are the best, they very rarely outflow a stock filter by any significant margin!
Increase the pipe diameter into the airbox, bellmouth it, get an EL GT CAI or similar and VOILA! You have a sufficiently high flowing intake system...

I read the autospeed atricles, hence I decided to fit an EF airbox into my EA to start with, then I got given a POD filter so fitted (main thing is I can clean it). The flow figures on the bench from autospeed certainly did not reflect the answer onm the dyno, but I have read it.

Yeah, it would be interesting to measure pressure drop between them.
Not saying that your dyno results are wrong, but if someone wants a definitive answer, and can be f**k doing it, that would be the way to go.
Some of Autospeeds articles make alot of sense, but others are just silly.
Alot of there tests would be so hard to do and get repeatable results.

Well also lets not forget the results I got may have been far from the possible higest flow figures possible, i.e. an AU intake might flow say 250rwkw now at those intake speeds maybe a dirty or clean filter has less impact on air speed then at lower rwkw.

In any event the results I have are back to back runs on a dyno, and real world results, not a bench in a lab.

Bu the usual story is so many things to do - so little time - and moeny is always the factor!!

Well i personally think our cars probally just react differently to the 'intake' mods. I know for a fact after i did mine, that on lpg the car runs ALOT better than it did with the old intake and even on petrol the cars still feels strong than eva before.

So yeah i dont know how you really explain that but if i dyno'd my XR atm with the exact same circumstances as i did whent he car was stock it would get a way better result. :)

Just my 2 cents
