For simple ease of fitment.. get an EL motor...

If you get an AU, you'll need to source EL bits anyway unless you fancy wiring up coil packs and the like.

Thanks for that but wiring up things doesn't scare me. I'm a sparky by trade and have already rewired the vehicle once many years ago. Here goes round 2!

Also I don't always go the easy route because that is not always the best as I learned many years ago. Quite often just a little more effort yields far superior and better results.

Wow I remember reading this thread two years ago.. good to see the project is still alive :)

Well I've had this van for over 18 years now in one guise or another so trust me when I say I won't be getting rid of it anytime soon. :D

Thanks for the other comments guys. :D

if your still going an aftermarket ECU you cant use the 4spd auto (its ECU controlled) unless you start getting complicated with V8 or EA TCM's.

You can however use an EA3spd auto and bellhousing (bottom two bolts dont line up with the holes in an AU block though.

Your van also looks awesome!

Are these a lower profile than for example something like the Redback I've read people are using?

Now that information is gold! Thanks. I had no idea that the trans was ECU controlled. I'll look into using the EA trans. Do you know if any later model is compatible as well?
