Lately there has been a very annoying and loud rattle coming from underneath my car, i thought it was the cat convertor, so i pulled it out today and gutted it, re installed it with new gaskets, and the rattle is still there. I have no idea what it is, but it sounds like a metal/metal rub, very tinny sound. It only happens on idle, and up to about 1500rpm, then it goes away, and it only seems to occur when the motor is warmed up, doesnt happen cold...?

anyone have any ideas, im hoping its not a bottom end rattle.

oh I also have a rather large exhaust leak somewhere if that has anything to do with it? maybe one of the mufflers has collapsed, im not sure.

took the exhaust off earlier (sounds horn as  ) might take the inspection cover off next weekend and see if its the convertor. Any other ideas? As i changed over the tranny and convertor bout 2 months ago, and the rattle was there b4, and after the tranny swap.

mind you, the rattle wast there when the exhaust was off. Is it possible for mufflers to collapse?

centre muffler is a lukey straight thru (ultra flow or some b/s) and the rear one, have no idea, might be stock. Im praying its not a bottom end bearing rattle or im up s**t creek!

yeah id be dreading that too !
could just be a baffle in the rear muffler, or an exhaust hanger f**k up, and the exhaust hitting the diff or floor or something?
if you can try pinpoint exactly where its coming from, narrow it down at least

hmm, a redback 2.5" may fix that and replace the old 2.5" press bent system... nice

im also thinking it has to be exhaust because along with the rattleing there is a mammoth exhaust leak. and they both started around the same time
