I was hunting around on ebay for ECU's tonight and just found this little widget.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=014

It claims to just piggyback into the ecu via the service port (so no soldering or splicing is required) and enable you to override the factory specs of the ecu, and set it to whichever type you want. Eg, if you have an auto GLi, you can which this thing in, set some jumpers, and change the ECU to fully function as a manual XR6.

Now I'm pretty skeptical, I was under the impression the ecu's were designed different between GLi, XR and Fairmont, but they're claiming they're all the same, just with different setups from factory. The grammar in the description makes the seller sound like english is their second language, but I'm not sure if this thing would even work, or if it would cause more trouble than good. And besides, is there much of difference of power gain to be had between XR6 and GLi? It'd just screw the fuel maps wouldnt it? Making ya car run lean?

But if it does work, could be good for manual conversions at least, lol.

PS: Anyone selling an EF Fairmont ecu should PM with a price to ship to tasmania :P

I think that J3 Chip has been discussed.

Thanks for the replies fellas, big help. Might be worth me looking into, but a friend of mine has done a manual conversion and not fixed the high idle yet, so its more for him.

Keep skiddin!
