also that seems quite cheap, i went to a local auto parts store when i lived in kempsey and im sure they were going to sell me the cheapo standard full rebuild kit for $800, it definatly wouldnt of been acl otherwise i wouldve remembered it, the bloke always sold the cheapest of the cheap stuff so it wouldnt of been very crash hot compared to this stuff

Best to get your block checked and measured before you buy the kits...just in case the cylinders need to be bored out a little...well that's what I was told anyway.

Dead on. You could always play it safe and buy 40thou over if there was only limited stock, but then you will be committed to getting a 40thou bore.

I wonder how much longer ACL will be around...

And that is very good advice.

When i built my 351, we had to wait for the machingin and cleaning to be done before ordering pistons and rings, to ensure they would be the right size.

I surely hope they will be around for me to buy a new rebuilt kit...

if not I need to build myself a kiln and make my own pistons ;)

Haha fingers crossed. I'm surprised they are still trading considering receivers were appointed well over a year go.

I thought the receivers were running the company & maximizing profits to pay down it's debts and restructure it as a working concern?

I can't see them being allowed to go under, they supply too much to the market in this country. If they are going to be wound up I better get my butt into gear & gear a few kits for engines I have to rebuild lol.

Cheers

It is still very up in the air. Originally they went into Voluntary Administration but liquidators were appointed in late 2009. The liquidators chief goal is to pay out as many debts as possible, so if they believe it is cost effective for trading to continue (and pay off more debts) they will. It is entirely possible that could return to market at some point, but considering the times we are in you would have to really know the financials to make better guesses. I think something like 75% of the market for ACL products is in exports, so tough with the strong $Aus.

As at the last annual creditors meeting they had halved staff numbers and I think returns were quite positive compared with the first annual meeting. Their words were something along the lines of "we will continue to monitor the ongoing trading and environment" with regards to it's continuance.

Not going to lie, got sidetracked at work the other day when searching for another company in liquidation under KordaMentha...haha killer attention span

Don't think so. Need to check the ACL website.

Skidder - very informative post.

Cheers

I think you can...they usually have kits and then add pistons/rings to suit. Might be able to ask them for just certain parts. Every sale counts?

Very informative indeed skidder...didn't think it was that bad.
