Hi all,
My missus has a Fairlane Ghia with VCT engine and ive just got another engine so that we can do some work to it and get her fairlane to boogie. I want to know what sort of cam i should look at to replace the standard item. We are going to turbo it but not go insane. I will be freshening up the bottom end and get my mate who runs a head engineering shop to open the head up a bit more to breath better.
So what are your suggestions for a nice cam to suit the vct engine which i suppose i have to turn off? A link to one that will go good with about 5-6 psi and has a list of parts to suit eg. springs etc etc.
This is gonna be my first attempt at building a turboed car and im looking forward to it haha.

I wouldn't even bother wasting money on changing the cam.

still running std springs ect, just had to add a 2nd set of lifter shims for the re grind cam.
the 1645 cam specs, duration@50=in/ex 205. lift@valve=in/ex .512 lobe cntr 114 .. there probably are better cams around, but i fitted this when mine was supercharged and the cam by itself gave a 15rwkw gain over the tickford cam, i went turbo and got great results from the same cam so i left it in..
only down fall is the 1645 is a touch sluggish down low, that may be why tickford_6 reccomends staying with the std cam??? im curious my self..
obviously you will need a custom tune for the different cam but considering your turbo'n it you need a tune anyway.

Yeah custom tune is a given but sluggish down low wouldnt be too bad because im changing diff gears too but not straight up.
