How the f**k hell did they manage to set the cam timing THAT wrong that valves met with pistons?

Does a vernier gear even let you put it out that far?

who f**k knows hes going to get the engine rebuilt for me and pay for all the labour and for what he has stuffed in the engine. Hes gonna give me a price on a set of ACL pistons aswell and i can pay the difference for them. The head is all getting fixed and with the AU metal gasket aswell.

I found out that the EL Hybrid engine use the AU crankshaft aswell.

The engine needs a rebore and its getting all new pistons (ACL race series) and it needs new bearings aswell, dont no how long this is going to take, hopefully not too long. The car might even pull better numbers then before.

Alright it's been a few weeks, the engine blew because he was 90 degreese out, so a quarter turn out for the timing of the cam. The engine has been completly rebuilt with ACL pistons, bored out 30thou and honed, timing kit, toughtride exhaust/intake valves, head has been fixed up and had the vavle guides fixed up with some K-line guides, Gasket kit and few other bits an peices.

The engine should be in the car this week, cant wait to get it on the road. Hopefully it should pull some good numbers once i have run it in.

Hopefully the transmission will hold up with the extra power aswell

Cheers

How did he manage that? The cam only goes in 1 way. Or was he installing the vernier gear at the same time and just didn't take any notice of the markings on the old & new cam gears? Pretty careless... I'd be wary of him rebuilding my engine if this is the case. Get him to turn it by hand & listen for any sign of valve/piston contact before starting it, otherwise you'll be straight back up the same creek again.

Yeah apperently it was jus lack of consentration, but 90 degreese???, i would of unstood if it was 180 degreese out, not doing the 2nd turn. Who knows, hopefully he does it proply

Got my car back yesterday, i cant believe how much mid range torque and power its picked up. The car feels so much stronger and when you get to about 2500 you really start feeling it starting to pull. il get it dynod soon but i have to run it in.

Had the car dynoed a few weeks ago, and it was leaning out down low with flat spots and a few hick ups and it made high 130rwkw's or just on 140rwkw. I cant seem to find the problem with this flat spot. It did it when the standard cam was in. It seems to be worse now, there were no ECU error codes or anything like that. The only thing i can think of is the ECU is faulty or my dizzy is on its way out. Anyone have any ideas? i just want it to run right.

Cheers

That's intense! It's good he paid for it to be fixed and all your mods can still be used. I'd be f**k' spewing if that happened to my car! Imagine the mood he would've been in after that happened...

yeah im glad its all over, he was p****d off as lol. i was in his workshop every second day to see how it was going and trying to get him to get it sorted out. I got 12month/20,000k's warranty and free service which was good.
On side note i raced a 05 WRX tonight at the lights on quiet highway, i was half a car behind him all the way to 130 then he backed off cause i was slowly catching him. I couldn't believe how i could stay with it. We stopped at the lights and the first thing he said was, what the hell have you done to that, lol. So it must be getting its peak power alot earlier or the torque curve is very flat. (also there was a VN SS next to us, that tryed aswell and we were about 3-4 cars infront of that).

I got the dyno sheet today, before it made 126rwkw and now it has 138rwkw. Pretty happy for just a mild cam, i will be getting the next stage up pretty soon.

I cant upload the sheet for some reason, it just hangs when i try to submit the post, il try again a little later

Cheers
