75th anniversary AU II Fairmont Ghia with VCT motor.
Frog-like noise coming from what sounds to be inside front left of dash or engine bay - seems to only comes on when aircon is ON - and it is annoying. Mechanic reckons it is the canister purge solenoid but I want it fixed or silent it - does anyone know where it is and how to take out or replace or silent it?

If your mech is talking about the purge valve on the carbon canistor, I've only heard of v8 au's having issues with it. Not to say it cant happen but.

If it is indeed the purge solenoid, it will be a sharp irregular ticking noise (nothing like the croak of a frog) that emits from the front left guard.

thats correct thats the solenoid or valve the mech was talking about
someone on ebay has quoted me $44 for the canister and the solenoid so im thinking
but the noise only comes when AC is turned on - very annoying

Is it only when the ac is on? Or when the fan is on by itself aswell? Hot or cold or both?

Silly question however what is the purpose of this canister?

I have seen one on an EF before at the wreckers & i couldn't work out what it did

from my reading - fuel vapour and other fumes collect in here and pass onto intake to be burned but yeah thats all I know - do you know where it is located in the engine and I'll have a look

The EF/EL's are located on the left hand front just under the headlight inside the bumper bar.
