Ok here is the thing.

We have a wrecked AU series 1 fairmont here.

My EF is slightly um under the weather.

- Change the engine from the AU (can be done i know easily enough)
- Will the the tranny fit straight up? - Can i use the same shifter as the EF?
- I need to change the ECU. - Is this just a straight swap? or do i need to change the whole dash or the wiring or what?

Thanks guys/girls

it has been done many times over...

you need to modify the k frame or get the sump cut and welded..
otherwise use all the ascessories from the ef,manifold, thermostat housing with the ef sensors..crank sensor will bolt straight on. ef cam sensor will slot into the dizzy hole..no need to change looms or ecu...
as for the trans you can use the ef trans with a au bellhousing.. or you can just use the au trans..

lol the reason why i am saying the ECU is cause my ECU has seen um better days to say the least.

I know about modifying the K-Frame or the sump that is not an issue

I was saying about the tranny as the EF one has seen better days.

So you are saying that i can use all the accessories off the EF? or do i need to change it all if i am using the AU ECU?

ok..
you can use the ef power steering pump, aircon pump, but i forgot to mention to use a au alternator...as the ef alt bracket needs modifying to fit au block..
if you want to use the au ecu ect? there is a fair bit of wiring and loom changes to be done..
to use the au ecu you will need the au loom and you would need to use the au manifold and sensors instead..

otherwise just treat it as a basic engine swap with a couple of modifications to the ascessories to suit..

I've an AU motor in my EF.

To summarise, this is what I did:

- Use EF ECU.
- Have front of AU Sump cut and plate welded on at diagonal angle.
- Use EF Sensors.
- The knock sensor requires you to tap out the AU's knock sensor boss to fit.
- Use AU Alternator.
- Use EF Intake Manifold.

Do all that and it should all Just Work (TM) :)
