Hello all, recently bought an au series 1 xr6, looking to put a performance camshaft in.

I called and found out that the au computer seems to not like the change. Which sucks.

Any ideas how may i go about doing this? Maybe trick the computer?

Have a look in the wade cams thread in the sponsor forum section.
Picking a cam depends on
a) What sort of gain you're after
b) Other mods you have done/are looking to do
c) How much you are willing to spend to get it to work (as in computer work, valve springs, head work)
d) Your car eg: auto/manual, condition

There are multiple companies that produce camshafts for the au falcons.
There are also different options for the type as well (regrind or billet)

Cheers

Sam

A J3 chip from T.I. Performance will set the computer straight for what ever cam you decide to go with.

If you speak to the guys at TI they can pre program a chip to suit your mods.

From personal experience my Au xr6 didn't like the j3 style chip, but mine wasn a ti item. If you want results spend the coin and either go a sct x3 flash box or get a sniper kit. J3's are old tech and should be left to the older cars.

The work being done by TI is very new and always developing.
They are nothing like the old J3 style chips from unichip and the like.
Think fully programmable EEC-V and fully re-programmable by anyone with TunerPro, even yourself.
The only thing missing at the moment is live tuning. I dont know if they are working on that or not, but I certainly hope so.

There can be a lot of misinformation spread on the internet as fact, so the best thing the OP could do is to contact TI and the other chip suppliers, tell them of the proposed modifications and ask if their solution will be suitable.

What kind of problems to the AU with the J3 chip in?

The computer kept overriding the chip, don't know if it was the tuner or a problem with the chip itself. My mate had the same issue with his.

I think that was a problem with the 'interceptor' chips from unichip and such.

I'm pretty sure that's not a problem with the stuff from TI, because it doesn't act as an interceptor, the ECU actually uses the whole 'program' from the chip instead of its built in memory.
