Hi gents,

I have a question for some of the moretechnical guys, as this is the first AU VCT donk i've played.

I have one of these in my cruiser, and its run by a haltech. I want to ditch the haltech in favor of a AU1 auto ecu which i plan to chip with manual XRish tune, and then run the vct off the bbm switching, or even another rpm switch of some sort.

My question is, as i won't have provision for any of the normal ford gearbox electrics, mainly the speed sensor, will it run fine thinking its in nuetral or go into limp mode thinking the gearbox is missing?

I wasn't sure how technical the au tickfor stuff is, so thought i'd check before i do anything.

Cheers, Andrew.

Why do you want to get rid of the Haltech? From what I hear they're quite a good ECU - and I think you'll have problems installing an auto ECU into a car that it won't be controlling the trans on, also don't know how you'd go about disabling smartlock (although you could J3 chip them to get around both of these).

Thanks, Thomas.

I have an au xr6 tickford factory auto thats been converted to manual. reading n on the dash it runs fine. some rev hang. The j3 eliminates both these problems though.

It's an xr6 but as far as vct's are concerned the only thing tickford is the badge on the vct unit and the red rocker cover. vct motors are all alike, xr or not. Even so that the tickford build plate on my ute only lists bodykit.

Why not grab a VCT ECU and let it control every thing.
J3 chip will sort out any issues you might have with using an auto ECU and smartlock/smartshield.

Hey hey,

Yeah i thought about this, but assumed that a vct ecu may be quite expensive to purchase, however if they aren't too dear i will go that route then j3 chip to manual. Sweet, my question is answered thanks tickford. Just wasn't sure if au ecu needed speed signal to run properly.

I will be removing the haltech because its a 60 series landcruiser, not a race car. It makes great power, but it still weighs 2200kg and was not designed to be fast, not to mention i bought it to actually use as a 4x4, not to be used as a soccermum car. Also, if a haltech s**t itself at cape york, i'm royally f'd. I have many spare au ecu's, so if i take a spare and the worst happens i'll be fine.

Andrew.

Obviously Jason (Ti Performance) would have to confirm but I'm pretty sure he can J3 a non vct ecu to vct. vct ecu's are rare as hens teeth. Hence why I'm still using my auto one. Either way after the J3 the outcome will be the same making it a moot point tracking down a hard to find, potentially expensive part for little gain.

Again, you'll have to confirm this yourself with Jason.

<edit: sorry Ash you're post wasn't there when I started posting> :P
