Just removed the sump from my AU donk and about to get it cut and welded for the NF fairlane. I noticed inside it has a plated steel baffle with holes for oil pickup and and pump housing. Can this steel baffle be easily removed for the sump modification and refitted? (with the front inch or so removed) Don't want to lever it with a large screwdriver if it aint going to budge.

well you can't weld ally to steel so i guess there would be a way... although i doubt brute force is the answer.

I'm worried about trying to force it out. It has what appear to be 10 studs (unthreaded) pressed into 10 holes drilled into the AU sump. The 10 studs are part of the entire baffle assembly. I'd say if a press put it in, I won't be removing it easily. I did see a picture of a welded sump that had been welded inside and out. Who ever did that one must have removed it somehow. I could drill them out but this would mean the baffle has to be secured some other way to the sump.

Drill it like in my doco.

They're steaked on, much like a rivet, drill them and remove, thread and screw.

No you didn't sound like a smart 4ss. Krytox's sump thread got me going in the right direction. I drilled out what I thought were studs but they are just part of the alloy cast sump that protrude upwards. The baffle is lowered on to 9 of them and a big press flares them out. I have cut the front off the sump and I'm just waiting for my aircraft welder mate to tig weld it up. I can't weld for sh!t so I leave it to the pro.
